动画 & 插图 program at the San José State University offers two degrees:

论坛的动画 & 插图 (Professional Degree)

The award-winning program prepares students for careers in feature film animation, games, television, 和 any other media that uses animation 和 storytelling as a core 沟通工具.

The curriculum combines both traditional 和 innovative educational strategies, including color theory, design, perspective, 和 conventional 和 digital painting. 此外, students will 研究 the principles of both traditional 和 3D animation, physics of motion, modeling, storyboarding, character design, 和 visual development. 上部分 classes offer students an opportunity to specialize in their area of choice.

Note: All students must pass a milest一个 portfolio review to remain in the BFA program. Students who do not pass the review will be changed to the BA-设计研究 major.

设计学学士 (Liberal Arts Degree)

Students who were admitted as 论坛的动画 & 插图 和 did not pass portfolio review will continue as 设计学学士 majors with a specialization in ANI. 这 specialization provides instruction in ANI foundation skills, supplemented by studies in design, film, photography, 和 theater arts.

Students in the 设计研究 for 动画 & 插图 program will receive basic preparation for entry-level jobs in the entertainment industry; optionally, they can later apply to a graduate program in 动画 & 插图 or similar fields of 研究.

Upon completion of the program, students will

  • underst和 the principles of color, design, optics, perspective, 和 the physics of 运动;
  • develop proficiency in life drawing, 和 have knowledge in both digital 和 traditional 绘画;
  • be familiar with principles of sequential narrative, as well as be able to create 和 develop original narrative, sequential projects—short films 和 tests that incorporate visual development, modeling, storyboarding 和 animation;
  • have the ability to work cooperatively in a team;
    apply professional st和ards 和 practices including proficiency in visual development, modeling, animation, or storyboarding;
  • underst和 art, film 和 animation history, theory, 和 criticism from a variety of perspectives, including those of art historians, animators 和 filmmakers.

Upon completion of the program, students will

  • utilize knowledge gained in the classroom to develop discipline-based skills in materials 和技术;
  • demonstrate professional depth of knowledge within their field of 研究;
    engage in global views 和 weigh design decisions within the parameters of ecological, socio-economic, 和 cultural contexts;
  • demonstrate all aspects of the design process to identify complex problems 和 generate solutions that optimize human experiences;
    engage in multi-disciplinary collaborative work team structures;
    demonstrate discipline-based design ideas verbally, visually 和 digitally.
