The 教育机会计划(bgi的) strives to retain and ensure timely graduation for first-generation, historically low-income, and educationally underserved college 学生. At 菠菜网lol正规平台 bgi的, we are committed to establishing a positive college experience 对于每一个学生. We are dedicated to increasing access and 学术 excellence by offering intentional support services and multifaceted community engagement.

Our advisors are committed and conscious of the 学术 and individual needs of every bgi的学生. By advocating for the development of student growth and accountability, we ensure personal, educational, and professional success beyond the degree.

bgi的的历史

• 1969

  • 菠菜网lol正规平台’s program began in the fall of 1969 with fewer than 200 学生. 那时， the campus atmosphere was fraught with tension within the administrative & 学术 structures, as well as between the institution and student organizations.

• 1970's

  • In the early 1970's, the separate bgi的’s were  integrated into 一个 centralized unit. By the end of the 1970’s, bgi的 at 菠菜网lol正规平台 had grown into a more viable program and became the model program, which had significant impact on the campus and in the community. 

    bgi的 programs and services grew throughout the CSU system, providing more structure, guidelines and regulations, and bringing more funding for bgi的资助 and services.

• 1980's

• 1990's

  • In spite of the progress made, challenges prevalent  throughout the 90’s threatened 来之不易的收获. In California, Propositions 187, 227 and 209 had a chilling effect on program development and access to education for underrepresented 学生, many 他们中有很多来自低收入家庭. 

    Policy decisions still under discussion had led to heightened anxiety regarding the ramifications of projected increases in the number of 学生 who sought admission 上大学.

• 2000's

  • The 2002 the 政府 made the decision to streamline all bgi的 services , which 取消了所有专门的bgi的服务和资金.  

    In 2008, 菠菜网lol正规平台 faculty and staff organized to demand the full restoration of bgi的. In 2009, an bgi的 Advisory Board was formed and members advocated for the following as base-line requirements for bgi的: 一个 MPP level Director, a designated space, a budget, and an institutionalized bgi的 Council with representatives from the task force. 

    In 2009, the University President agreed with the task force recommendations and sent out a memo to the campus community stating the following: “菠菜网lol正规平台 is committing both financial and personnel resources to renew and strengthen bgi的 in accordance with the 学生的特殊需求和经过验证的最佳实践.”

• 2010 - 2015

  • bgi的 was on a path to reestablishing itself on the 菠菜网lol正规平台 campus.  2010年，政府 reinstated dedicated funding to support rebuilding the program.  bgi的主任是 appointed in mid-2010 and was charged with evaluating the program and determining what programmatic changes were necessary and what the future plan for bgi的 would be.

    In 2013, the Connect, Motivate, Educate (CME) group which served former foster youth on the 菠菜网lol正规平台 campus was officially moved under bgi的 and renamed the 《菠菜网lol正规平台》的学者 程序(GSP).

    Enrollment in GSP has remained at an intentional 40-50 学生 each year.  GSP的学生 也是bgi的学生吗.  In addition to all the support services bgi的学生s receive, GSP的学生 also have a dedicated lounge space (created in 2018) and a basic needs and food pantry, and have a dedicated professional to assist with non-学术 needs.

    In 2015, bgi的 moved back under the 学生事务处.

• 2017年至今

  • Being centrally located on campus for the past 6 years, the  designated space for bgi的学生s is always teeming with 学生 in the lounge that are either studying, 与导师会面或在前台提问. 节目还在继续 得到政府的大力支持，业务蒸蒸日上. 

    bgi的 systematically rebuilt each related comp一个nt of the program over a 6 year period. From bgi的 specific admissions, First Contact, Summer Bridge, Academic Advising, a Tutoring Center, and a variety of coaching and mentoring programs (ACES, NSM and ICIW), bgi的 表现出对学生成功和保留的承诺吗.

    In Fall 2018, bgi的 began the bgi的 Transfer Connect Program which provides pivotal guidance and resources to first year transfers during their transition to 菠菜网lol正规平台. 这个项目 supports 学生 in synthesizing their diverse life experiences and skill sets into 追求学业、事业和个人进步.

    bgi的 continues to serve first-generation, low-income 学生 on campus with a variety 支持服务.  The student population has grown to approximately 2700 学生.  bgi的 also provides bgi的 presentations to prospective local high school and community 学院组织.
