Program 教育目标 are defined as career and professional accomplishments that are to be achieved within the first few years of graduation.

The Objectives for our Materials 工程 program are to produce graduates who, within three years of graduation, are able to: 

PEO 1: Be employed as a practicing engineer or scientist in fields such as design, research, development, testing, manufacturing, and safety

PEO 2: Engage in lifelong self-directed learning to maintain and enhance professional 技能

PEO 3: Conduct themselves as ethical and responsible professionals as well as articulate the environmental, safety and economic impacts of their work on society

PEO 4: Demonstrate leadership 技能 在工作场所

1. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.

    • Utilize the structure-properties relationship to predict the properties of a material.          
    • Select the materials and properties appropriate for a specific application.
    • Assess needs, formulate problem statement, structure and evaluate solutions in solving real-world materials engineering problems.
    • Apply thermodynamics and kinetics in the 过程 design of materials system in order to produce desired structure and properties.

2. An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors. 

    • Select and evaluate appropriate materials and 过程ing methods based on desired performance with iterative design analyses.
    • Select and evaluate economic impact of the materials, design, and/or 过程es.
    • Describe and analyze global, cultural, social, and environmental impact of the design 过程.

3. An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.

    • Communicate effectively through formal and informal written and oral means.

4. An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
